Why Mr. Joe?
Chess is such a fun, endless game of activating and energizing your brain – a back and forth momentum game just like an exciting soccer or basketball game. Once kids learn the basics of chess they can start to build the pathways in their brain to improve critical thinking skills, analyzing, logic and patience.
A variety of fun hands-on lessons are used to teach chess in a way that is different from most chess schools. Giant chess pieces lined up on a seventeen foot chess board in an outdoor environment makes learning the basics of chess fun & exciting. Some lessons are taught on a skateboard called the “checkmate skate” which is used to illustrate chess piece movement and strategy. Keeping classes fun & light, kids have the option to use Super Mario Chess, Charlie Brown Chess, Marvel Super Hero Chess, Surf Chess, Scooby Doo Chess, as well as the super flexible bendable chess pieces.
Many kids are “wiggly” & hyper thus Mr. Joe’s uses exercise, movement, to break up his classes so that all kids can focus and learn chess. Mr. Joe loves his job and is always working on new ideas to keep classes fresh, fun, and exciting.
